The new look

So I’ve redone my blog yet again, with an entirely new look. I decided to ditch my original idea (more like postpone ‘till the net’s next feeding) and went with a more simple design. Let me know what you think!

Oh SNAP!!!

My blog ate itself again. I was actually thinking of reconfiguring my blog this time, but now I have no choice. Parhaps this is the universe’s way of keeping me on track. Perhaps it’s just bad luck. Whatever it is, it keeps happening, and there’s really nothing I can do but role with the punches. So here I go, watch me tumble . . .

Brown leather is better than black, and cheaper!

Yesterday I was in Paris, Ohsweken, Hamilton (twice), and a few other cities trying to find everything I needed for these arm bands. Luckily I was kept good company Shabudabu who documented the entire thing for a photo essay she is thinking of writing. I’m not sure what it’s about but it’s called ‘Urbane Sprawl: Human vanity as represented by the urban landscape’, I look forward to reading / viewing it!

When I got home I made a cool leather arm band. When I got up today, I made two more! I think they’re pretty much the coolest things I own. I was so inspired by them I started dressing up in weird combinations of my clothes (pirate on top with plaid bell bottoms below) and taking pictures of myself. Then I went downtown where I followed a hot chick to the gym where we worked out together. Afterwards I walked her back to her apartment and we kissed briefly before I had to leave to run another errand and catch the bus.

51h 25m

Sunrises are really a beautiful thing, until you watch three of them consecutively without sleeping or sitting down. The ‘Tag The Tucson’ contest ended for me after 51 hours and 25 minutes of resting my left hand on the drivers side tail light.

Although I got to know lots of cool people I wouldn’t have otherwise met, and now have a great new story to tell, this event was one of the definitive ‘rough patches’ of my life. I hallucinated, I passed out on my feet, I have a vague recollection of doing a weird bum dance and being the sole person in the mall to find it funny. The square my hand was in changed shape in my mind, and lost all meaning at points.

Once the contest was done, I got a ride home, began crying (not because I was sad, but because I was exhausted), dropped Shannon off, bid by mom and brother adue and went to bed. Sometime while I was at the contest the power cord for our home phone was lost (nobody seems to know what happened to it) so I can’t turn the volume down. I was, as a direct result of this, woken up 4 times and got only 20 hours of interrupted sleep. I decided I was coherent enough the upon my last wakening to make some spaghetti and blog for a bit.

I’m not ashamed to say that I wouldn’t have made it nearly as far as I did if I didn’t have such wonderful friends and family pushing me farther and keeping me hydrated, caffeinated, reasonably coherent and fed. Thank you everyone!

Papa Spank??

The site Flash Dobson and I found this on claims that it’s an actual unmodified frame as it appeared in the real comic book. I just don’t know what the heck Batman is talking about!

The site is called superdickery.com and it’s all about how Superman is actually a horrible person. The evidence they offer is quite compelling, like the comic book cover pictured below.

"Damn, that's cold . . ."

Delicious Reading

I was reminded of an article I read recently on the internet regarding the slow food movement. I had stopped (after missing my bus) at ‘Stir it up’ and ordered a delicious spinach salad with green goddess dressing and free range chicken roti. I had to get it to go or I would miss my next bus, so that’s what I did. I wanted to eat the food while it was warm, so after Shabudabu and I hit the bus terminal I proceeded to eat my food and continued once I had boarded the bus and found a seat. I didn’t feel like I was rushing, but I managed to eat the entire thing before I got home and now I feel a slight tinge of indigestion.

I miss the days of my youth when the whole family would gather around the table to share a communal dinner. Or even when I got older and I would eat potlatch style meals at Westfield and re-enactments. Even in university there were a few occasions which allowed group gatherings to enjoy a meal and each other’s company. Unfortunately these occasions were few and far between leaving the rest of my meals solitary and lackluster. I don’t even have a table in my current apartment, nor a great need for one as Jamie and my eating habits are too divergent to allow a satisfactory common meal. I guess trying to eat right and not rushing is the best I can hope for now, but sometime in the not too distant future I hope to be able to achieve some more substantial goals.

Frontier House

I taped this entire show in my second year of university. It’s fantastic (except the one family from California they piss me off) and really gives you an insight into life on the frontier. I used to volunteer at Westfield Heritage Village and re-enact the war of 1812 which gave me some insights into the heritage lifestyle and I would love the experience to live it for an extened period of time. I don’t think I could last TOO long, but it would be fun to live it for more than just a weekend. Maybe I need to join a new regiment or find a way to Westfield each week. Maybe I need to rethink my post topics so they have something more insightful to say, or maybe the key to this post is to extrapolate your own meaning from it! The world (No, not the band) may never know!

P.S. - Still no word on my bike. I think I can safely accept that it is gone.

As Promised: v.I

I haven’t received the pictures of Gideon yet, but I also promised to post the pictures of the carcass we found on the front lawn. So here they are in all their gruesome detail. Be warned, if you live in the city and are imagining this might be something your cat would drag into your lawn you are SEVERELY mistaken.

This is the first picture I took of the thing. You can see the antlers and pelvic bone both still attached to the spine.

Look at the shine on the hoof there.

This bone was crushed into the mud by the car tire.

This is the entire thing from a different angle.

I don’t know where the heck the dog finds these things, but it’s a pretty consistent occurrence. The last BIG thing she dragged in was a severed deer head and left blood all over the snow in the front yard. Ahh, the joys of country living.

Babies, Baboons, Sheepskins,Two Steps and Tea

Thusfar my weekend has been splendid. It started on a great note. Shabudabu and some pals invited me to the Ranch in Guelph. The plan prior to that had been to head out to Caistor and spent the night, then head to pick Ayden up from school and continue on to Blyth. It just so happens that Ayden lives in Guelph and it would make things easier if I went to the Ranch and then spent the night in Res. with Ayden. I’m glad it worked out that way because I had a wonderful time in the bar dancing and singing, and almost getting trampled a half dozen times by the two steppers. Although there was lots of music that I had never heard, I was able to slow dance with Shabudabu to ‘Simple Kind of Man’ by Leonard Skynard which I really enjoyed. After a good ol’ time at the Ranch the girls dropped my off at UoG and Sabudabu met Ayden and all was well. It took us a few hours to find breakfast the next morning. We ended up driving around Guelph not finding anything (other than a man walking his pet baboon) and eating a large lunch at a Mennonite restaurant in Milbanks.

After that I spent a day and a bit in Blyth at Cap & Gil’s place visiting with family and meeting my new . . . er . . . cousin’s son Gideon. (We’re considering him my nephew). I forgot to pack my camera however, and so I am entirely dependant upon everyone else who was there to send me their photos. I will be sure to post once I receive them.

While we were in Blyth we sang karaoke at ‘The Boot’ which was an experience. Zoe and I sang ‘Paradise by the Dashboard Light’ by Meatloaf. It wasn’t bad. The next day we all had breakfast at The Grand View and then headed home to see Gideon and drink obscene amounts of tea. Before we arrived at the house we decided to take a slight detour and visit the Old Mill. I bought two new sheep skins (one I use as a mat, and one I sleep on to add comfort and warmth.).

Before returning to Brantford we had to take Ayden back to Caistor so he could study for his genetics exam (don’t ask me why he’s taking genetics. I really don’t know). Upon arriving on the farm I was confronted with the antlers and partial skull, still attached to the full spine and hip bones of a deer sitting in our front lawn. There was fur, an untouched hoof, and a the poor things stomach spread all across the grass. Needless to say I took lots of pictures with my phone and will post them soon.

A Big Day Indeed

There was a lot of stuff that happened today. I met up with Muffin’s Mc Sweetie, Sweet William, and Glow Worm for a big breakfast at Tops. I got a ‘Lumberjack’ breakfast while everyone else indulged in the splendour that is ‘The Four Duces’. I was a half hour late showing up, but everyone assured me that I had shown up at least 30 minutes before they had expected me.

After breakfast I walked the Worm to Zehrs to get some pictures developed and lost all the buttons in my jacket during a poorly executed jump from a swing in Mohawk Park. I managed to find 2 of the missing 3 buttons, but the other is lost to me forever. Although I did find a really cool tree stump that I am going to try to turn into a stein. (Wish me luck!!)

By the time I got home to get ready for work I had missed 13 calls. They were to my cell phone, so I didn’t have any messages, just a call log, but the fact that 10 of the messages came from my brother and 3 were from my Uncle, I safely guessed that my cousin had gone into labour. I called around to confirm my hypothesis and found that she had gone into labour at about 4am. The baby (Gideon Lawrence David Garret) was born about 12 hours later after a comparatively easy natural labour at home. He is the first of his generation born, and I can’t wait to meet him this Friday.

I’m packing my camera, and will be sure to post a ton of pictures in my photo album.
